Different Types of Tow Trucks Used by Any Tow Truck Service

It’s not only your car that breaks down suddenly but just about any kind of vehicle can die down on you suddenly. Your best option at that time is to avail of a tow truck service. Towing a vehicle is not just pulling a vehicle. It has a number of intricacies involved. Plenty of factors must be considered to ensure that the vehicle is transported in the right manner to its final destination. One important consideration is the proper choice of the tow truck. There are various types of trucks used by any tow truck ogden service. Few of them are:

Flatbed Tow Trucks

It is one of the most common and preferred tow truck used by most towing companies. It has a long empty bed with a flat top on which the vehicle to be towed is placed. The flatbed is moved upward and downward via a hydraulic system. One notable feature about these tow trucks is their ease of use. All one needs to do is drive the vehicle up the ramp and get the vehicle loaded on it. They are an ideal choice for transporting almost all kinds of vehicles, be it highly damaged or even vehicles without wheels like the boat. These are considered the safest of all the tow trucks. It is a popular choice, especially for emergencies.

Integrated Tow Trucks

A much more specialized truck than the flatbed, it is typically used by any tow truck service for heavy-duty vehicles that need to be towed like other rigs or buses. What makes it an ideal choice for them are their extra axles which provide enhanced stability and strength. They also have ‘arms’ which are more embedded in the core of the towing vehicle.

Hook and Chain Tow Trucks

This is the oldest type of tow truck that has been ever since the towing concept has been introduced. This is also the cheapest type of service offered by any tow truck service. However, it is gradually falling out of popularity. This is because this method applies plenty of pressure on the towed vehicle which makes them highly vulnerable to damage. Thus, this is most commonly used to transport an already wrecked car, often to a junkyard. Another negative aspect of this tow truck is that it cannot be used for all wheel and 4×4 drives because of the increased risk of damaging the drive train. Thus, it is only used for those vehicles which are already totaled and an additional damage to the bumper would not make much of a difference.

Wheel-Lift Tow Truck

These trucks have a similar mechanism to the hook and chain tow trucks but they differ in using a metal yoke instead of the traditional chain. This causes less damage to any towed vehicle. Here, the metal yoke is hooked either under the front wheels or the rear ones. The attached side is then lifted off the ground and suspended in the air using a pneumatic hoist or hydraulic lift. They are not as safe as flatbed but are safe than the hook and chain. They are also relatively inexpensive.  These are a great option when you desire your car to be towed with minimal damage but cannot drool out sufficient cash.

Conclusion

Now that you know the various types of tow trucks, you can even ask for a special type when requesting a tow truck service.
